Top 100 Disruptors Interview – Jude Marino: Redefining Leadership Through Wellness and Purpose

For more than three decades, Jude Marino built a successful career in corporate America, leading teams, developing strong business relationships, and delivering results in the telecommunications industry. His professional journey included leadership roles at Cox Business, where he earned Winner’s Circle recognition twice and was named Cox Business Leader of the Year.

After years of corporate success, Marino reached a point where he wanted to build something of his own and create a more direct impact on people’s lives. That desire led him into healthcare and entrepreneurship. In 2023, he founded Louisiana Medical Group, bringing his business experience into the wellness space and developing a model focused on medically supervised weight management, nutrition, patient support, and long-term wellness.

As Founder & Managing Partner of Louisiana Medical Group, Marino combines business discipline with a strong focus on patient care. His journey reflects the courage to enter a new industry, the willingness to keep learning, and a belief that business can create meaningful change in people’s lives.

From Corporate Success to a New Purpose

Q: You had a successful 30-year career in telecommunications. What inspired you to make such a major career change?

Jude Marino: After spending more than 30 years in corporate leadership, I reached a point where I wanted to create something of my own and make a more direct impact on people’s lives. I had achieved a great deal professionally, but I wanted the next chapter to have a deeper sense of purpose. Healthcare and wellness gave me that opportunity.

Q: How did your corporate background prepare you for building a healthcare company?

Jude Marino: My corporate career taught me how to lead people, build relationships, manage operations, solve problems, and stay focused on results. Those skills can transfer to almost any business. Healthcare was a new industry for me, but the fundamentals of leadership and business remained the same. I often say that medical providers went to medical school, while I went to business school and worked backward into healthcare.

Building Louisiana Medical Group

Q: What was the original idea behind Louisiana Medical Group?

Jude Marino: The goal was to create a better experience for people who were struggling with weight management. The business was designed around personalized care rather than simply providing a prescription. We wanted patients to feel supported throughout the process, with nutrition guidance, meal planning, follow-ups, tracking, and other wellness services working together.

Q: What do you believe makes the patient experience different?

Jude Marino: We do not simply prescribe and send patients on their way. We partner with them. Every person has different needs, goals, challenges, and experiences, so the approach needs to be personal. Our team stays engaged with patients and uses tools such as body composition tracking, apps, regular follow-ups, nutrition guidance, and personalized plans to keep them moving forward.

Q: Louisiana Medical Group grew quickly after launching. What was the biggest lesson from that early growth?

Jude Marino: The early response showed us that there was a real need for what we were offering. Within the first month, we had 100 patients, and by the second month, that number had doubled. The business also became cash-flow positive very quickly. That experience reinforced the importance of listening to the market, building a strong team, and delivering an experience that people value.

Leading Through Learning

Q: Coming from business rather than a traditional medical background, how do you approach leadership in healthcare?

Jude Marino: I believe leadership starts with knowing what you know and being willing to learn what you do not know. Healthcare required me to learn an entirely new field, from medications and patient needs to clinical processes and compliance. I continue to learn every day. I also work closely with medical professionals and make sure the right clinical standards are followed.

Q: What role does innovation play in the way you operate?

Jude Marino: Innovation does not always mean creating something completely new. Sometimes it means finding a better way to deliver something people already need. We continue to look at how technology, patient tracking, nutrition, wellness programs, and personalized support can work together. The focus is always on improving the patient experience and helping people achieve lasting results.

Beyond One Business

Q: Your work has also expanded into business consulting. What led you to create The Marino Group?

Jude Marino: After building my own businesses, I saw that many entrepreneurs wanted to enter the wellness space but did not know where to begin. The Marino Group allows me to share the business knowledge I gained over the years and help other entrepreneurs build their own opportunities. It is rewarding to help people turn an idea into a working business.

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of your entrepreneurial journey?

Jude Marino: The people. Building businesses is exciting, but seeing patients improve their lives and watching employees grow professionally is even more meaningful. Creating jobs, developing leaders, helping entrepreneurs, and serving the community all contribute to something bigger than a business.

A Vision Built Around Impact

Q: What does the future look like for you and Louisiana Medical Group?

Jude Marino: The focus is continued growth, but growth with purpose. I want Louisiana Medical Group to continue improving how patients experience weight management and wellness. There is also an opportunity to expand the model and help more entrepreneurs enter the industry responsibly. The goal is not simply to build bigger businesses. It is to build businesses that genuinely help people.

Q: What advice would you give to other professionals considering a major career change?

Jude Marino: Keep learning, build genuine relationships, and do not be afraid to take calculated risks. It is easy to wait until everything feels perfect, but that moment may never come. Sometimes the biggest opportunities appear when people are willing to step outside what they already know and take the first step.

A New Definition of Success

Jude Marino’s story is ultimately about reinvention with purpose. After decades of corporate leadership, he chose to step into an unfamiliar industry and build something that placed people at the center of the business. His transition demonstrates that experience does not have to define a career’s final chapter. It can become the foundation for an entirely new one.

Through Louisiana Medical Group, Marino has brought together business leadership, wellness, patient support, and entrepreneurship. His approach is grounded in a simple idea: meaningful success is measured not only by revenue or recognition, but also by the people a leader helps, the teams they develop, and the opportunities they create.

That philosophy continues to shape his work as Founder & Managing Partner and points toward a future where growth and human impact remain closely connected.
