Neelima Misra: Making Technology More Human, Trusted, and Accessible

For Neelima Misra, CEO and Co-Founder of DaasTek, technology has always been more than a tool. Over a career spanning more than 26 years, she has worked across software development, enterprise data, cloud, IoT, and AI, contributing to technology initiatives across more than 50 countries. Her experience with global organizations including Microsoft, Accenture, Cognizant, and Pitney Bowes shaped a clear understanding of what meaningful digital transformation requires.

That understanding eventually led to the creation of DaasTek in 2020, with a vision to make enterprise-grade data and AI capabilities more accessible to small and mid-sized organizations. Today, Misra focuses on building secure, trusted, and scalable digital ecosystems while keeping people, ethics, and long-term business value at the centre of technology decisions.

A Journey Built on Curiosity and Purpose

Q1. What first set the direction for your leadership journey, and what led to DaasTek?

Neelima Misra: My journey began more than 26 years ago as a software developer. Curiosity and a passion for solving complex problems through technology were strong drivers from the beginning. Over time, I had the opportunity to work with organizations such as Microsoft, Accenture, Cognizant, and Pitney Bowes, leading enterprise data, cloud, IoT, and AI initiatives across more than 50 countries.

Those experiences taught me that transformation is never only about technology. It is also about people, trust, and purpose. While advising large enterprises, I saw that many small and mid-sized organizations faced similar challenges but did not always have access to the same strategic capabilities. That realization inspired me to co-found DaasTek in 2020. The goal was to democratize enterprise-grade data and AI while making responsible innovation more accessible.

Q2. What values continue to guide the way you lead?

Neelima Misra: I am motivated by the belief that technology, when designed responsibly, can create meaningful value for businesses and society. My leadership philosophy is built around three principles: Courage, Empathy, and Lifelong Learning, which I call C-E-LL.

Courage helps me challenge conventional thinking and make bold decisions when change requires a new direction. Empathy reminds me that every technology decision affects people, cultures, and communities. Lifelong learning keeps me curious and humble in an environment where technology changes constantly.

These principles shape how I approach innovation, inclusion, and the responsibility that comes with leadership.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Q3. Was there a defining career challenge that changed the way you lead?

Neelima Misra: One defining moment came when I was asked to lead a complex technology platform initiative where expectations were high, and there was considerable skepticism about delivery. The team consisted largely of young professionals and fresh graduates who were still developing their confidence and technical skills.

Instead of seeing that as a limitation, I saw an opportunity to invest in people. I became a mentor, coach, and supporter while giving the team ownership. We created clear goals, psychological safety, and an environment where people could ask questions freely.

The platform was successfully delivered, but the greater achievement was watching team members grow into confident professionals. That experience reinforced my belief that leadership is not about having every answer. It is about creating an environment where people can discover their own capabilities.

Q4. How does DaasTek create an environment where innovation can grow?

Neelima Misra: Innovation happens when people feel trusted, included, and connected to a meaningful purpose. At DaasTek, innovation combines deep technology expertise with an understanding of business and human needs.

I encourage multidisciplinary collaboration because some of the strongest ideas emerge when different perspectives come together. My experience across global organizations has also shown me that diversity of thought strengthens creativity and helps teams identify risks.

We believe in giving teams freedom to experiment while maintaining clear principles and guardrails. Freedom without responsibility can create confusion, so governance and accountability remain important. When people have ownership, trust, and purpose, innovation becomes part of the culture rather than a separate initiative.

Leadership That Builds More Leaders

Q5. What qualities separate highly effective leaders from the rest?

Neelima Misra: The strongest leaders combine intelligence with emotional awareness. In today’s environment, leaders need to become trust brokers who connect technology possibilities with real human and business outcomes.

The best leaders listen before acting, communicate clearly, and create alignment across different stakeholders. They are also comfortable admitting what they do not know because curiosity is more powerful than ego.

I believe leaders should focus on the why before the how. They should not follow every technology trend. Instead, they should identify meaningful problems and apply the right solutions responsibly. Great leadership means balancing ambition with humility, speed with governance, and innovation with long-term thinking.

Most importantly, leaders should create more leaders around them by sharing knowledge, empowering others, and building confidence.

Q6. How has mentorship influenced your growth as a leader?

Neelima Misra: Mentorship has played an important role throughout my career. Mentors encouraged me to think bigger, question my assumptions, and move beyond my comfort zone. Many opportunities came because someone believed in my potential before I fully recognized it myself.

That experience created a strong sense of responsibility to support others in the same way. Today, I mentor professionals, support emerging technology talent, and engage with academic and industry communities. I also encourage people at DaasTek to take ownership, experiment, and learn from both successes and failures.

I believe responsible mistakes can become some of the best learning opportunities. Continuous learning is not simply a skill. It is a mindset.

Building for a Changing Future

Q7. How does the organization remain agile as customer needs and technology evolve?

Neelima Misra: Organizations need to build adaptability into their foundation. At DaasTek, the focus is on flexible, secure, and scalable digital ecosystems rather than temporary technology solutions.

Trusted data foundations, responsible AI adoption, and adaptable architectures help organizations respond as their needs change. We also closely follow developments in AI governance, cybersecurity, data regulations, and frameworks such as the EU AI Act and EU Data Act.

At the same time, the conversation always comes back to business value. Technology should solve meaningful problems rather than simply follow trends. Agility comes from combining innovation with strong principles so organizations can move quickly while maintaining trust, security, and compliance.

Q8. What lesson has most shaped your leadership style?

Neelima Misra: One of the biggest lessons has been understanding that technology transformation is ultimately human transformation. Working across more than 50 countries exposed me to different cultures, leadership styles, and ways of solving problems. I learned that while technology frameworks can be global, successful implementation depends on understanding people and context.

Starting DaasTek later in my career also reinforced that there is no fixed timeline for creating something meaningful. Experience, perspective, and determination can become powerful advantages.

These lessons shaped my leadership around humility, empathy, and empowerment. I want people to feel valued because when individuals are supported, they can achieve extraordinary outcomes.

Q9. What advice would you offer emerging leaders who want to create lasting impact?

Neelima Misra: Emerging leaders should focus on purpose, integrity, and continuous learning. Technical skills matter, but understanding people and solving meaningful problems are what create lasting impact.

They should begin with the why before choosing the technology or approach. They should remain curious, embrace diverse perspectives, and build relationships based on trust. Challenges and setbacks should not be feared because they often become experiences that strengthen leadership capability.

Leadership is a responsibility, not simply a position. The strongest leaders create value for others and leave their communities stronger than they found them.

Looking Ahead with Trust at the Centre

Q10. What excites you most about the future of AI and technology?

Neelima Misra: I am most excited about the opportunity to create a future where AI becomes more trusted, accessible, and human-centred. Agentic AI, predictive intelligence, and federated data ecosystems have the potential to transform how organizations operate.

However, the opportunity is not only about technological progress. Innovation must remain responsible, transparent, and aligned with human values. At DaasTek, the focus is on helping organizations build secure and scalable foundations so they can adopt AI with confidence.

I believe the future will belong to organizations that balance speed with responsibility and innovation with trust. Beyond technology, I am encouraged by the growing global community of leaders, researchers, and practitioners working together to shape ethical AI. The future is something that must be built together with empathy, intelligence, and purpose.
